Dangerously situated just across the street from the all-conquering ‘U Babci Maliny’ on ul. Slawkowska (the full address is Slawkowska 24a- not far from the sw. Marka church- you don’t really want to try pronouncing the name to ask for directions!), this little place is left to pick up the scraps of the slightly-more-adventurous-tourists-and-occasional-Pole trade selling traditional Polish fare.

Polish language
2 03 2010It has long been an ambition of mine to become fluent in a second language. At school I was pretty decent at languages generally, getting high grades in French and German, but classroom prowess without practical experience is very easily found out. The biggest use of my French ‘abilities’ nowadays is to get a chuckle out of those who are miles better than me (unless they are actually French, in which case substitute ‘punch’ for ‘chuckle’).

Maybe this is why Google is acting up in China…
16 01 2010Been playing with Google Translate today, and it seems there is some room for improvement in the linguistic abilities at the world’s pre-eminent company. I simply, and probably unoriginally, took my post “The Mysterious Attraction of Snow”, put it through the translation process twice (into Polish and then this Polish version back into English). The results, mostly very close to the original but very amusingly different in places can be found below.
