Most talked about this week? Not by me, but by the world at large, or the part of it that do their talking on the Net anyway. Lots of excited responses, but also lots of dissenters, and for now I’m in the latter camp. Again Apple have created a beautiful looking product, their masterclass in production design continuing. The question that still needs answering for me has to be “Why would I need one?”- it doesn’t do anything better than devices already available and in common everyday use, and these devices also do other things.

Chilcott/Blair
30 01 2010I was only able to watch the first couple of hours so a lot of this is based on second hand information, mostly of the disappointing variety. As the lunch break was approaching, it seemed as if the tough questions were about to come out and Blair was in for a real grilling. At this point, I had to go out and was only able to catch up with what i missed this morning. According to what I’ve read so far, I didn’t miss much of import.

My year in books
29 01 2010The past 12 months have been pretty slow on the reading front, gradually dragging myself kicking and screaming through War and Peace. Now I’ve reached the epilogue (longer itself than some books I’ve read) it’s time to look ahead to the next read, which will hopefully be an easier one, and back at a contrasting year when I managed to get through 101 books more than I did last year.

Podcasts you should seek out
28 01 2010For a while now, isolated as I am from many sources of information because I’ve abandoned the motherland, podcasts have been very important to me as a way of keeping up to date with goings on around the world and also as a useful way to keep myself amused as I walk around the city. I’ve tried many, and at various times built up quite a backlog of programmes doomed to go unheard before eventually being deleted, still with the blue circle beside their names in iTunes. This has all been worth it though, as a way of finding some gems which I can share with you here- The AKE! official podcast listening guide:

The pick so far
27 01 2010Like any youngster, ‘Andy Knows Everything’ is still developing, figuring out what its strong points are and what it should cunningly steer clear of to avoid embarassment. This is your chance to aid this development, to become a kind of Dr. Frankenstein of the blog world if you like. All you have to do, for now at least, is let me know what your favourite post is from what’s on offer thus far, and what your least favourite is. Couldn’t really be much easier, so get stuck in

Reasons to hate sport
26 01 2010With two posts already on why people should love sport, I feel it’s only fair to acknowledge the existence of the other side of the argument- all of you out there who don’t share my passion are not without merit. Like everything, the sporting sphere has its flaws, its weaknesses and its annoyances, which I will begin to discuss in a complementary series of posts.

The Real “Big Freeze”
25 01 2010As a Brit living in Poland, I’ve heard a lot from people at home and the British media about “THE BIG FREEZE”, as they are calling the recent coming to a standstill of a lot of the country because of a bit of snow and temperatures occasionally going below zero.
